Scholarships for Masters Programme in Saudi Arabia

The King Fahid University of Petroleum and Mineral, Dharan, Saudi Arabia, has announced the availability of scholarships in its Environmental Master Programme, with a focus on marine sciences and environment. Candidates applying for those scolarships must hold a Bachelor's degree in science or engineering; other requirements are given at http://www.kfupm.edu.sa/gs.

JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme

A call for applications for the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) London Postdoctoral Fellowship (Short-Term Award) has been announced for the 2012 fiscal year. The JSPS London Postdoctoral Fellowship (Short Term Award) provides the opportunity for pre and postdoctoral UK researchers and European and North American researchers based in the UK to conduct collaborative research activities with leading research groups at Japanese Universities and Institutions for visits of 1 to 12 months. 

2nd International Marine Phytoplankton Taxonomy Workshop

SAHFOS and MBA are jointly organising the 2nd International Phytoplankton Identification Course to be held from 2 to 13 July 2012 in Plymouth, UK. The workshop is aimed at all those working in the marine phytoplankton field and participants will be expected to have a basic knowledge of microalgae.

EAMNet fellowships 2011-12

The Europe Africa Marine Earth Observation Network (EAMNet: www.eamnet.eu) project part funded by the European Commission announces its Second Open Fellowship Programme. This programme is designed to promote training and capacity building in Africa in support of GOOS-Africa (the Global Ocean Observing System in Africa and “GMES and Africa”. Second ICES-PICES Conference for Early Career Scientists

To encourage the participation of early career scientists in international scientific investigations and to promote their involvement in the management of the marine environment, the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) and the North Pacific Marine Science Organization (PICES) invited a group of early career marine scientists to form the Scientific Steering Committee (SSC) to plan and organize an international conference for their peers on a marine topic of their own choosing. The resulting conference will be held on Majorca Island, Spain from 24 to 27 April 2012.
