UNOLS Chief Scientist Training Cruises

The UNOLS Chief Scientist Training Cruises will instruct early career marine scientists, including PhD students, on how to effectively plan for, acquire, utilize and report on time at sea for multi-disciplinary research and education. A training cruise will take place from July 6-15, 2011 from Newport OR and be repeated for a second science party September 16-25, 2011. The cruise plan will be dictated by the science requirements of the participants. Participant travel costs are provided along with small stipends for research supplies.

Summer School in Marine Ecosystem Modelling

The Marine Ecosystem Evolution in a Changing Environment (MEECE) project is organising a summer school in marine ecosystem modelling from 7 to 14 September 2011, hosted by the Middle Eastern Technical University, Ankara, Turkey.  The course offers young scientists experience in recent developments and methodologies in the simulation of marine ecosystems and their response to a changing environment. Ocean Optics Summer Course

An intensive three-week, cross-disciplinary, graduate-level course on "Calibration and validation for ocean color remote sensing" will be offered at the University of Maine's Darling Marine Center from 11 to 29 July 2011. This class is a continuation of the Optical Oceanography course first offered at the Friday Harbor Laboratories in 1985 and more recently at the Darling Marine Center. Past graduates are many of today's leaders in oceanography.

Microbial Oceanography Summer Course at BIOS

"Microbial Oceanography:  The Biogeochemistry, Ecology and Genomics of Oceanic Microbial Ecosystems"  is an immersion summer course offered from June 19 to July 09 by the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences.

International Climate Training Workshop

The International Desks of the Climate Prediction Center (CPC), a division of the National Centers for Environmental Predictions (NCEP) of the National Weather Service. In partnership with the Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA)of the US Agency for Internacional Development (USAID), is pleased to announce a two-week training workshop for climate scientist in the Atlantic basin. The workshop will be hosted in Dakar, Senegal by the Agence Nationale de la Meteorologie du Senegal (ANAMS), from 21 June to 1 July 2011.
