New Antarctic ice discovery aids future climate predictions

A team of British climate scientists comparing today’s environment with the warm period before the last ice age has discovered a 65% reduction of Antarctic sea ice around 128,000 years ago.  The finding is an important contribution towards the challenge of making robust predictions about the Earth’s future climate.

BiodivERsA is a network of national and regional funding organisations promoting pan-European research on biodiversity and ecosystem services, and offering innovative opportunities for the conservation and sustainable management of biodiversity. It promotes innovative research linking science to society and policy, with over € 130 Million of funding invested in our projects since 2008. BiodivERsA is funded under the Horizon 2020 ERA-NET COFUND scheme.

G7 Science and Technology Ministers set Ocean Observation as a priority for the Future of the Oceans

At the 2016 G7 Science and Technology Ministers meeting in Tsukuba, Japan, ocean observation was defined as a key priority for the future of the oceans.  In line with the G7 ocean expert working group, POGO had proactively contacted the G7 to speak out for the ocean observation system.

 

Frontiers Horizon Scan 2017: Emerging Issues in Marine Science – call for submissions

Frontiers in Marine Science is launching the first edition of their annual Research Topic Horizon Scan 2017: Emerging Issues in Marine Science. It is the only topic that publishes invited review and synthesis articles, and awards the authors with a free publication to showcase the latest and most important research in the marine sciences at the beginning of every year.
