Job opportunities

Postdoctoral Position, CNES

We are looking for a candidate to develop and propose a research post-doctoral project to CNES (Centre National d’Études Spatiales).

Many differences have been observed in the physical and biogeochemical responses to El Niño events. In recent years, events with warm SST anomalies confined in the central Pacific and cool anomalies eastward and westward are recurrently observed. This type of event is known as central Pacific El Niño or El Niño Modoki. Recent studies have shown that the response of the ocean in terms of surface chlorophyll and biological production to central Pacific El Niño differs from the response to the conventional El Niño also known as eastern Pacific El Niño.

Physical Oceanographer, British Antarctic Survey

The British Antarctic Survey (BAS), part of the Natural Environment Research Council, aims to undertake a world-class programme of scientific research, and to sustain for the UK an active and influential regional presence and a leadership role in Antarctic affairs.

We are looking to appoint a Physical Oceanographer to a senior post within the Open Oceans group at the British Antarctic Survey (BAS), based in Cambridge, UK. The focus of the Open Oceans group is on improving the understanding of the circulation, mixing, dynamics and Earth System feedbacks in the polar oceans, using a combination of theoretical, observational and numerical analysis techniques, and assessing the implications for the global climate. The group interacts closely with the Shelf Seas group at BAS, which is focused on investigating ice and continental shelf processes, and well as with other groups in BAS focused on study of the atmosphere, cryosphere and ecosystems.

9 tenure-track positions at Florida State University

Faculty Recruitment for a Multidisciplinary Initiative in Coastal and Marine Research

The President and the Provost of Florida State University are pleased to announce a major initiative to develop a multidisciplinary group studying the short- and long-term dynamics of coastal ecosystems, especially with respect to the interconnectivity among biotic and abiotic components of terrestrial and marine environments. This strategic effort seeks to recruit as many as nine tenure-track/tenured faculty, open with respect to rank. Faculty will have academic appointments in either the Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Science

(EOAS) or the Department of Biological Science. Some of the new faculty hires can be based at the FSU Coastal and Marine Laboratory (FSUCML).

Assistant Professor: Marine Microbial Ecology, Texas A&M University

The Department of Life Sciences of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Marine Microbial Ecology. Possible research areas include, but are not limited to: role of microbes in aquatic food webs and biogeochemical cycling, microbial pathogens, microbial diversity or microbial physiological ecology.  This position will further expand and complement our M.S. and Ph.D. programs in Marine Biology (, and also contribute to our Coastal and Marine System Science Ph.D. program ( The preferred start date is September 1, 2014. A competitive startup package and research lab space will accompany this position.
