The research unit “Marine Biogeochemical Modelling” of the research division “Marine Biogeochemistry” is offering a position for a Scientist/PostDoc Earliest potential start date is August 1st 2017. The position is funded by the DFG-project “Towards a deeper Understanding of Cyanobacteria Blooms in the Baltic Sea”. The position is anticipated to cover a period of 3 years.
GEOMAR seeks for candidates with strong interest in the Ecosystem of the Baltic Sea. The project aims to identify environmental drivers of cyanobacterial blooms in the Baltic Sea by combining statistical analysis of observations with output from a numerical coupled ocean-circulation biogeochemical model.
Applicants must have a university degree equivalent to a PhD in Marine Biology, Oceanography or a related subject. The applicant should be familiar with coastal ocean processes and be able to work on his/her own initiative. Very good English language skills are mandatory and at least basic knowledge in statistic is a requisite. Applicants with a working knowledge of the ecosystem of the Baltic Sea, good programming skills (e.g., Matlab, R, Fortran) and/or experience in using numerical models to address scientific questions are preferred. Experience with numerical ocean-circulation models of the Baltic (e.g. with MOMBA) is a bonus.
