Scientific employee (PhD-candidate) position, Marine Biogeochemical Modelling, GEOMAR, Germany

Deadline: 25.08.2017

GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel is offering a Scientific employee (PhD-candidate) position in the Marine Biogeochemical Modelling unit of the Marine Biogeochemistry research division. The position offers the possibility to attain a doctoral degree in natural sciences.

They are looking for candidates with a strong interest in modelling marine biogeochemical cycles and their role in the Earth system. The research project will focus on better quantifying the global transport, transformation, and fate of carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus as these elements pass from terrestrial systems to the open-ocean or are retained with coastal seas. The extent to which human activities modify the lateral transfer or loss of these elements from pelagic marine waters will also be investigated.  The research will be conducted with an Earth system model of intermediate complexity so that links and possible feedbacks between regional biogeochemical cycling and the global Earth system can be investigated as well.
