Research Technician position available at Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi

Applications are sought for a qualified, self-motivated individual interested in a full-time technical position to study marine and estuary biogeochemistry under the direction of Dr. Xinping Hu of the Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. The successful candidate will assist with daily management of the laboratory, including planning, coordinating, and conducting laboratory experiments and field sampling efforts, and conducting chemical analyses of water and sediment samples.   

This position also requires helping with preparation of manuscripts for publications and project report writing.


Duties for this position include:
1. Plan and participate field-sampling expeditions.
2. Samples collection and analysis.
3. Data analysis and assist with reports & manuscripts preparation.
4. Maintain and oversee daily operation of laboratory.


Required Qualifications:
1. BS in chemistry, oceanography, or related field. Additional education above minimum requirement may substitute for experience requirement.
2. Prior experience in chemical analysis of environmental samples (instrumental and wet chemistry).
3. Ability to conduct research tasks under a variety of weather conditions, and occasional evening and weekend hours.
4. Advanced computer skills using Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.).
5. Ability to work in an interdisciplinary research team. 
6. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.


Preferred Qualifications:
1. Field experience in marine and environmental research and/or small boat experience preferable.
2. MS in chemistry, environmental science, or oceanography preferred.  


MINIMUM SALARY: Commensurate with experience


This position will be offered initially for 12 months with the possibility of continuation based on performance and funding.
