Job Opportunity: Research assistant position in ocean-ecosystem modelling, GEOMAR, Germany

GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel ,Germany, has a vacancy for a Research assistant in ocean-ecosystem modelling within CUSCO (start date 10/2018, subject to final approval by the BMBF), starting on January 1st 2019 or earlier.

Deadline: 10. June 2018

Job Description

● This position is devoted to understanding the relations of biogeochemical cycling, higher trophic levels (especially anchovy) and environmental conditions in the Humboldt upwelling system, with the specific goal to investigate energy fluxes amongst trophic levels and the sensitivity of the system to climate variability, based on an “end-to-end”  model approach.
● The main task will be the implementation of an individuum-based fish model in an existing regional ocean circulation-biogeochemical model, and to evaluate this newly developed end-to-end model framework. The long-term goal of this work is to assess the short to long term temporal variability of fish productivity and its relationship to primary productivity and biogeochemical cycling under IPCC climate scenarios for the 21st century.
