Job Opportunity: Postdoctoral Position in validation and deployment of chemical sensors in marine waters, at GEOMAR, Germany

Deadline: 1. May 2018

The working group Water Column Biogeochemistry of the research unit Chemical Oceanography, at GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, is offering a Postdoctoral Position in validation and deployment of chemical sensors in marine waters. The position starts on June 1st 2018.

Topic: Improvement of measurement metrology for chemical sensors

Project Description:
The EU-BMWi project OCEANSensor draws together European companies and research organisations (from Germany, France, Norway, UK) developing, validating, marketing and deploying marine biogeochemical sensors. OCEANSensor aims to improve and utilise the latest sensor, platform and communication technologies to be used for marine biogeochemical observations. The project will refine existing sensor technologies, develop new applications, and demonstrate complete technology solutions for new, in situ marine sensors and observation systems for biogeochemical parameters in coastal and oceanic waters. An important aspect will form the improvements to measurement metrology (accuracy and stability), by performing in-situ calibrations in order to take quality and traceability of data to a new level. Biogeochemical parameters of interest to OCEANSensor are among the Essential Ocean Variables as defined by the Global Ocean Observing System within the Framework for Ocean Observing, namely oxygen, nutrients, and inorganic carbon.
