Job Opportunity: PhD-candidate position in Biological Oceanography/ Microbial Biogeochemistry, GEOMAR, Germany

GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel is offering a PhD-candidate position starting on January 1st, 2019 in the research unit “Biological Oceanography/ Microbial Biogeochemistry” within the research division “Marine Biogeochemistry”. The position is in the framework of the BMBF collaborative research project REEBUS (The role of eddys for the carbon pump in coastal upwelling zones).

Job Description:
The successful candidate will conduct sea-going studies on the dynamics and microbial turnover of dissolved organic matter in the tropical North Atlantic Ocean.


Qualification:
A requirement for this position is a completed university degree (Diploma or Master of Science) in the field of Biological Oceanography, Marine Life Sciences or related field. Basic knowledge of Physical and Chemical Oceanography is expected. Experiences with the methods of measuring organic compounds and their degradation are desirable. The position requires participation in several long-term sea-going expeditions. A precondition for this position is therefore experience with ship-based expeditions as well as the ability and willingness for sea-going research.
