Job opportunity: Maritime Environmental Protection Adviser at UK Ministry of Defence

The UK Ministry of Defence has a vacancy for a Maritime Environmental Protection Advisor, based at Navy Command Headquarters (NCHQ) on Whale Island, Portsmouth.

Closing date: 15 Apr 2018

NCHQ is the nerve centre of the UK Naval Service. It supports operations around the globe and provides the ships, people, aircraft and equipment to deliver the UK’s defence policy. NCHQ supports all the Royal Navy’s activities from front-line operations to personnel selection and training. Civil Servants work in many different disciplines here alongside uniformed personnel fulfilling a range of interesting roles.

The Maritime Environmental Protection Adviser (EPA(M)) will be involved with a variety of maritime environmental protection aspects across Navy Command (NC). These primarily concern the vessels and activities of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Royal Fleet Auxiliary and our Naval Bases. The successful candidate will work to the Senior EPA(M) but will have no subordinate staff.

This post is suited to a candidate with either a working knowledge of MOD shipping operational and procurement activity or a background in marine biology, environmental protection, management or regulation. Appropriate training and support will be provided to a successful candidate who lacks some of this knowledge but it is improbable that a candidate with none of the above knowledge would be effective in post and therefore is unlikely to be selected at interview.
