Dr. Edgar G. Pavia is a senior scientist at CICESE’s Meteorological Forecasts Laboratory, in Ensenada, Mexico. He was born in Mexico City on 3 October 1955. Dr. Pavia obtained a BSc in Oceanology from the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California in 1979; he also holds a MSc in Meteorology (1985) and a PhD in Oceanography (1989) both from The Florida State University.
Dr. Pavia has been a senior scientist at CICESE since 1989 and belongs to Mexico’s National Scientist System since 1990. He was a visiting scientist (2001-2002) at the Laboratoire des Écoulements Géophysiques et Industriels in Grenoble, France, and has attended conferences, seminars and courses in many academic institutions around the world. Dr. Pavia has authored or co-authored more than thirty peer-reviewed contributions and directed more than a dozen of graduate and undergraduate students.
At CICESE he has been Chairman of the Physical Oceanography Department (2000-2005) and Director of Graduate Studies (2007). He was also Secretary General of the Unión Geofísica Mexicana (1998-1999) and has been cited in the Who’s Who in Science and Engineering since 2000. As of 1 September 2015 Dr. Edgar G. Pavia is the Director of CICESE’s Oceanology Division.
