Memorial, the largest university in Atlantic Canada, is a dynamic institution with teaching and research
programs of international distinction. The university has approximately 18,000 undergraduate and
graduate students supported by 900 faculty members and a staff of over 2,000. With campuses located
in Newfoundland (St. John’s and Corner Brook), a campus in Harlow (England) and special facilities in

The Marine Institute is a world leader in the areas of applied marine research and technology
transfer related to fisheries and oceans, with excellent research facilities and a long-standing record of

designed for industry to graduate level instruction in marine studies. The Marine Institute is

individuals who enjoy the interface between academic research and teaching and the work of
private and public sector organizations. The Executive Director reports directly to the Vice-President
(Academic) and is supported by a high-level Industrial and Governmental Advisory Committee.

The successful candidate will be a recognized leader in marine studies and will be familiar with
the operations of a self-sustaining teaching and research institute. The ability to encourage collaboration,
excellent interpersonal skills, strategic leadership qualities, and an entrepreneurial approach are essential.
Candidates must be committed to excellence in education, research and community service.
